Ultimately, putting advanced knowledge into practice requires improved abilities to navigate the complex institutional architectures of the modern metropolis. In this realm, my research has examined, among other topics:
- Why and how voluntary inter-municipal collaboration for land use and transportation initiatives might emerge in Portugal;
- How planning processes might influence underlying institutional tendencies to collaborate
- How different financing mechanisms, such as public private partnerships, can be better employed to improve metropolitan mobility performance.
